ABATE of Arizona Chapter Report
- Southern Arizona
Another Too Broke is in the history books and it turned out to be a good one.
The weather was perfect, attendance was up about 300 riders from last year and a stone
fox became Miss Too Broke. Now, what more can you ask?
Well, we asked for some Chapter member help and Bob Welton, Cliff
Abel, Papa Gene Lueth, Jim DeYoung, Bill Greene, Dawn Detelj, and Mike Messer showed up.
Yours truly was there and our Coordinator was working 18-hours a day on State membership
and any other job that needed to be done. If I missed any of our members that helped out
I apologize up front. It's hard to relay how interesting it is to work the registration
desk. Literally everyone shows up at your table and it's an eclectic mix of people to
say the least. I honestly enjoyed my time working the desk.
Our Chapter was also responsible for the Poker Run. We ran a Ken
Lamb style run with no designated stops. The turnout was excellent and an informal poll
of those returning from one of the three routes showed the riders and their passengers
enjoyed the “no stop” routine. If we're designated to the Run task next year we'll try
and make it another “no stop” one.
Dawn put on her sales hat and took off with a bag of ABATE pins
we've had hanging around for a while. She came back with the bag almost empty. I didn't
ask her how she did it but according to Ron “she sold the crap out of them.” Thanks Dawn.
Be sure and check out this month's Masterlink for further information
and a bunch of photographs.
State and Chapter elections are coming up fast. As usual, we need
some new blood in both groups. Please think seriously about donating a little of your time
to the Chapter and become an officer. Trust me it's not a hard job and there's lots of
help available.
Our first highway cleanup of this year had a few, but very dedicated
folks show up and fill nine bags of trash. The place looked pretty good and we had enough
chow left over to feed the patrons of Buddy's Bar. Our next cleanup is scheduled for
October 16th. The weather will be cool and we could certainly use a little more help.
Mark it on your calendar please.
Dawn, our merchandise person, tells me we're getting closer to a
Chapter shirt. How close I don't know but it will be a pay up front affair and chances
are it won't be a t-shirt. Let your ideas be known and wear it proudly.
Our next meeting will be August 22nd at our usual place, the Kettle
Restaurant with breakfast at 8:30 with the meeting beginning at 10 sharp. See you there.
In the meantime, ...
